Limit High-Purine Foods

The most important step in lowering uric acid is limiting high-purine foods. Avoid or strictly limit organ meats such as liver and kidneys, red meat, and seafood such as sardines, anchovies, and shellfish. Alcoholic drinks, especially beer, must also be avoided because they increase uric acid production while hindering its excretion.

Replace them with low-purine foods: fill your plate with vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Low-fat dairy products are also a good choice. These healthy foods help lower uric acid gradually when eaten consistently.

Drink More Water and Consume Vitamin C

The simplest yet most important habit is drinking enough water. Water helps the kidneys flush excess uric acid through urine. Aim for 8 to 10 glasses of water a day, or about 2 to 3 liters. This habit also prevents kidney stones caused by uric acid crystals.

Get vitamin C from fruits such as oranges, kiwis, and strawberries. Vitamin C helps lower blood uric acid levels by increasing its excretion through urine. For vitamin C supplements, consult a doctor first for the right dosage.

Maintain Weight and Exercise Regularly

Excess weight makes the body produce more uric acid. Losing weight gradually and healthily effectively lowers uric acid levels. However, avoid overly strict diets or drastic fasting, which can actually trigger sudden gout attacks.

Regular physical activity helps maintain a healthy weight and is good for joint health. Light to moderate exercise such as walking or cycling is very beneficial and helps lower uric acid in the long term.

Avoid Triggers and Consult a Doctor

Avoid high-fructose sugary drinks such as sodas and packaged fruit juices, which can raise uric acid levels. Manage stress well, too, because prolonged stress can disrupt the body's metabolism. Enough sleep also supports uric acid control.

If uric acid levels stay high or attacks recur frequently, consult a doctor promptly. Doctors can prescribe uric-acid-lowering medication suited to your condition, along with an appropriate diet and lifestyle plan.
