Annual vs Five-Year Renewal
STNK renewal comes in two types. Annual renewal is essentially just paying the Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) — no physical vehicle inspection is needed and the license plates stay the same, so the whole process can be done online. This renewal type is the most practical option because every stage — from checking the bill to paying it — can be completed from a phone without visiting a Samsat office.
The five-year STNK renewal, by contrast, requires a physical vehicle inspection at a Samsat office to verify that the frame and engine numbers match registration data, along with new license plates. For this type, visiting Samsat in person is unavoidable.
Requirements and Document Preparation
Prepare your original ID card matching the name on the STNK, the original vehicle STNK to be renewed, plus an active email address and phone number. Make sure the vehicle data and ID number exactly match what is printed on the STNK so system verification does not fail.
If the vehicle is still under financing, ensure the STNK and tax status are active to avoid fines. Also check the STNK expiry date before it falls due.
Steps to Renew STNK via the SIGNAL App
Download the SIGNAL app (National Digital Samsat) from the Play Store or App Store, then register an account using your email, national ID number, phone number, and a selfie. Add your vehicle data by entering the plate number (NRKB) and the owner's ID number.
Open the Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) menu; the system will display the bill details matching your vehicle data. Pay through an available bank, such as BRI, BNI, Mandiri, or BCA.
After successful payment, the receipt appears in the app and you receive an e-TBPKP as valid proof of STNK validation. Affix the validation sticker to the validation-year column on the physical STNK.
Annual Renewal Fee Breakdown
The PKB amount differs per vehicle since it is calculated at 1–2 percent of the Motor Vehicle Sale Value (NJKB). The fixed components are the SWDKLLJ: around Rp35,000 for motorcycles and Rp143,000 for cars, plus an online service admin fee of roughly Rp5,000–Rp10,000. Late payments incur fines, so renewing before the due date saves money.
Alternatives to SIGNAL include each province's e-Samsat portal and several marketplaces offering vehicle tax payment. If you transact via a marketplace, STNK validation can be picked up at a chosen Samsat or delivered via Pos Indonesia.
