Fatal Duel in the Early Hours in Sukatani
A dispute that began over something trivial turned fatal in Sukatani, Bekasi Regency, West Java. A 15-year-old identified as AM died after engaging in a duel using sickle-shaped blades known as celurit with another teenager his age.
The incident took place in Kampung Srengseng, Sukamulya Village, Sukatani District, on Tuesday (13/10/2026) at around 2:00 a.m. The victim suffered three slashing wounds, two on the back and one on the front of the neck.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The case adds to a list of teen brawl tragedies sparked by petty disputes in the Bekasi Regency jurisdiction.
Sparked by an Accusation of Stealing a Lighter
The alleged motive emerged from the police report. The dispute reportedly began when a teenager identified as RM (15) accused AM of taking his lighter. The accusation offended the victim, and the two began challenging each other.
The quarrel then developed into an agreement to fight with celurit blades. Police said the agreement was allegedly arranged through WhatsApp conversations between the victim and the suspect.
According to Sukatani Police Chief AKP Nano Indratno, the two teenagers already knew each other and were friends, reportedly even schoolmates. Both then came to the agreed location carrying bladed weapons.
Suspect Apprehended Six Hours Later
Police moved quickly after the incident. On Tuesday morning at around 8:00 a.m., officers apprehended RM at his home in Kampung Kaliabang, Sukamulya Village, about six hours after the incident.
Bekasi Metropolitan Police spokesperson AKP Aliyani explained that police are now examining the case in depth, including the WhatsApp conversations allegedly linked to the fight agreement.
Evidence seized in the case includes two celurit blades, a black helmet, clothing worn by the suspect and the victim, a bag, and a mobile phone belonging to the alleged perpetrator.
A Lesson from a Trivial Tragedy
Bekasi Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Andi Oddang Riuh Hutomo, through the Sukatani Police Chief, confirmed the case is being handled by the Sukatani Police criminal investigation unit. Investigators are still piecing together the sequence of events that led to AM's death.
The tragedy is a reminder of how a small matter, left unresolved with a cool head, can turn fatal, especially when emotions and bladed weapons are involved.
Police urge the public, particularly parents and educators, to supervise teenagers' social circles and instill non-violent conflict resolution. Law enforcement in this case is expected to have a deterrent effect so similar incidents do not recur.
