Street Fighter Synopsis: The World Warrior Tournament
The film is set in 1993, when Street Fighter II was popular among arcade players. The era's atmosphere is part of the film's approach to rekindling longtime fans' memories while introducing the franchise to a new generation.
According to the released synopsis, Street Fighter follows Ryu and Ken, who reunite after being recruited by Chun-Li to enter the World Warrior Tournament. During the tournament, they must confront a hidden conspiracy and a past that comes back to haunt them.
Street Fighter Fun Facts
On the action side, the film delivers 14 main fight sequences designed around each fighter's characteristics. The stunt team blended various martial arts disciplines, including Shotokan, Goju-Ryu, Judo, Wushu, Tai Chi, and Kung Fu.
Director Kitao Sakurai used traditional hand-drawn animation in a flashback scene featuring Ryu and Ken. Every frame was crafted manually, inspired by 1990s animation techniques. Callina Liang also trained intensively five to six days a week to play Chun-Li, a character known for her fast, powerful kicks.
Street Fighter Promotional Activities in Indonesia
The film's promotion includes several activities in Indonesia. One is Smash the Car at Indonesia Comic Con 2026, inspired by the Street Fighter II bonus stage. In the challenge, participants must destroy a car before time runs out, mimicking an iconic moment from the classic game.
Fans were also invited to join a Street Fighter cosplay parade at Jakarta's Car Free Day, featuring group workouts with FTL Gym. The Street Fighter film starts playing in Indonesian cinemas on 14 October 2026.
