KPK Names 5 Suspects in BNPB Case
Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named five people as suspects in an alleged corruption case at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Wednesday (14/10/2026). The designation follows a sting operation staged on Tuesday night (13/10/2026), in which 14 people were rounded up across several areas in Jakarta and its surroundings.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo identified the five suspects as Syifa Nrika Ghifarian, Gabriel Purwaka Sigit, Bima Setiawan, Gery Prasetiawan, and Richard Erlangga. "After the investigation was decided to be raised to the inquiry stage at the case-expose forum last night, investigators then named several parties as suspects," Budi told reporters on Wednesday (14/10/2026).
BNPB Chief's Brother Among Suspects
Gabriel Purwaka Sigit is known to head BNPB's Emergency Aid Management Subdirectorate while serving as commitment-making officer (PPK). Bima Setiawan and Richard Erlangga are expert staffers of BNPB chief Suharyanto, while Gery Prasetiawan and Syifa Nrika Ghifarian come from the private sector.
The name Bima Setiawan drew attention after reports identified him as the younger brother of BNPB chief Lt. Gen. (ret.) Suharyanto. KPK chairman Setyo Budiyanto confirmed the information when approached by reporters in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday (14/10/2026). "Yes, that is the information we have," he said. Setyo stressed that suspect designation is based on alleged unlawful acts, not the background or family ties of the suspects.
Alleged Bribery Over Disaster Standby Funds
The case concerns alleged bribery and conflicts of interest in goods and services procurement at BNPB, including procurement funded by disaster standby funds. During the sting, KPK seized around Rp1.4 billion in cash as well as gold bullion and gold savings accounts.
The five suspects left KPK's Red and White Building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon around 4:48 PM wearing orange detainee vests. The five — four men and one woman — gave no answers to reporters' questions. They were then taken to KPK detention for the investigation.
BNPB Secretary-General Cleared, Presser on Friday
Of the 14 people rounded up in the sting, BNPB Secretary-General Rustian was confirmed not to be a suspect. He was allowed to leave the KPK building after a marathon examination since Tuesday (13/10/2026). Parties not designated as suspects and still holding witness status were free to go.
KPK plans to hold an official press conference on the sting and suspect designation on Friday (16/10/2026). As of Wednesday night, the anti-graft body had not yet detailed the case construction implicating the five suspects.
