KPK Sting at BNPB: 14 Detained on Tuesday Night
Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Tuesday night, October 13, 2026. Fourteen people were detained in the Greater Jakarta operation, including senior officials of the disaster agency.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the operation in Yogyakarta on Tuesday night, saying the team detained 14 people including the secretary-general, commitment-making officers, and private-sector individuals. Besides BNPB Secretary-General Rustian, those detained include BNPB procurement officers and businesspeople. All were taken for intensive questioning at KPK headquarters in Jakarta.

Seized: Rp1.4 Billion in Cash and Gold
Investigators seized cash and precious metals. According to Budi, the initial count put the seized cash at around Rp1.4 billion.
Besides cash, investigators also seized gold — partly in bars, partly in gold savings accounts. The total amount is still being inventoried by the KPK team.
Alleged Graft in Disaster Emergency Funds
The KPK suspects the case involves corruption in goods and services procurement at BNPB, with a focus on spending from the agency's disaster emergency funds (Dana Siap Pakai). Budi said investigators are still establishing how each detainee is linked to the procurement.
To decide the next legal steps, the KPK is holding a case review. A detailed chronology and case construction will be announced once the in-depth examination is complete.
Who Is Rustian, the Detained BNPB Secretary-General?
Rustian — full name Dr. apt. Rustian, S.Si., M.Kes. — has served as BNPB secretary-general since 2023. Born January 1, 1969, he holds degrees in pharmacy, public health, and public administration, including a doctorate from Universitas Brawijaya (2022).
He began as a civil servant at the Health Ministry in 1998 before moving to BNPB in 2008, where he held posts including logistics director, bureau chief, and emergency resources director.
BNPB: Cooperating and Respecting Due Process
BNPB struck a cooperative tone. Acting head of its disaster data and communications center Berton Panjaitan said the agency respects the legal process and upholds the presumption of innocence, pledging to provide data and access as required by law.
BNPB also ordered an internal investigation following the detention of its officials in the alleged disaster-fund corruption case.
