Sole Nominee Approved by Acclamation

Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto has been officially approved by Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) as the new National Police Chief (Kapolri). The decision was formalized in a plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (1/10/2026), chaired by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani.

Suyudi was the sole candidate nominated by President Prabowo Subianto to replace Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. The nomination was submitted through Presidential Letter (Surpres) No. R-57/Pres/09/2026 dated 30 September 2026.

Before the plenary vote, the DPR's Commission III completed a fit-and-proper test on Suyudi that same morning. All parliamentary factions expressed support, and the approval was granted by acclamation. Suyudi was scheduled to be sworn in by President Prabowo at the State Palace later that afternoon.

Born in Pandeglang, Academy Class of 1994

Suyudi Ario Seto was born in Pandeglang, Banten, on 14 July 1973. He graduated from the Indonesian Police Academy (Akpol) in 1994, then continued his studies at the Police Science College (PTIK) in 2003 and the Police Senior Leadership School (Sespimti) in 2018.

His career in the national police force has spanned more than three decades. Suyudi began his service in the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) in 1995, and most of his assignments were spent in the Jakarta Metropolitan Police jurisdiction.

He held a series of territorial commands, including police chief of Pasar Minggu (2004), Tanah Abang (2012), and Penjaringan (2013), as well as district police chief of Majalengka (2014-2015), Bogor (2015-2016), Bogor City (2016-2017), and Central Jakarta (2017).

A Detective's Career Path to the Top

Suyudi is known as an officer with a strong specialization in criminal investigation and detective work. He once headed the mobile detective unit (Resmob) of the Jakarta Police, the Jakarta Police's general crimes directorate detective unit (Jatanras), the South Jakarta criminal investigation unit, and the detective unit of the national criminal investigation department (Bareskrim).

His career continued to rise into strategic positions. Suyudi served as Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Police, Deputy Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (2023-2024), and then Police Chief of Banten Province from 26 June 2024 to 5 August 2025.

On 25 August 2025, he was entrusted with leading the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), replacing Commissioner General Marthinus Hukom. One of his standout achievements at BNN was leading the interception of two tons of methamphetamine worth Rp5 trillion from an international network controlled by Dewi Astutik, alias PA, in December 2025.

Vision: Police Together with the People

During his fit-and-proper test at the DPR's Commission III, Suyudi presented his vision of 'Polri Bersama Masyarakat' (Police Together with the People). That vision now stands as his commitment in leading the police institution.

With his strong detective background, the public holds high hopes that Suyudi's leadership will strengthen law enforcement, combat narcotics, and rebuild public trust in the police.

The challenge now awaits the new police chief: ensuring the Bhayangkara institution operates professionally, responds to the needs of the people, and consistently delivers the vision he presented to the nation's legislators.
