Indonesia's FIFA Ranking Climbs to 116th

Indonesia's national team recorded another positive trend in the latest FIFA ranking update on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The Garuda squad officially soared to 116th in the world with 1,168.25 points, up one spot from the previous position.

The jump came after Indonesia's strong results as champions of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The significant points boost let the national team leapfrog its closest competitor, Kazakhstan, now on 1,166.65 points.

PSSI chairman and Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir called the achievement the best in 20 years. It also widens Indonesia's gap over rival nations in Southeast Asia.

Erick Thohir Eyes FIFA Top 100

With the distance to the top 100 getting slimmer, Thohir set an ambitious target for the national team to break into FIFA's top 100.

"For the Indonesian national team, our goal is to break into the FIFA top 100. Statistically, talking about the World Cup, our ranking must keep rising, and let's try the top 100 first. Maximize FIFA Matchday matches, collect as many points as possible," Thohir said in Surakarta on Monday (12/10/2026).

The ranking rise is valuable capital and a motivational boost for all players ahead of upcoming competitions and FIFA Matchday fixtures. Thohir said the main focus is playing official FIFA matches against higher-ranked teams.

Jordan Friendly Not Yet Confirmed

After winning the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, the Indonesian national team has another fixture in the November international break. The 72nd-ranked team, Jordan, is touted as a potential opponent for the Garuda squad at Amman International Stadium on November 13, 2026.

However, the friendly in Jordan is not yet confirmed. The volatile situation in the Middle East has PSSI still weighing alternative opponents for the November FIFA Matchday. Playing friendlies against higher-ranked teams is key to maximizing FIFA points in every international window, as Indonesia chases the top 100 and keeps its long-term World Cup ambitions alive.
