Why GetContact Works
Scammers rarely strike once — they contact many victims from the same number, leaving an easy digital trail. GetContact collects tags from millions of users: if a number has been reported, tags like "scammer", "spam", or "loan scam" appear when you search it.
That is what makes GetContact popular for checking scam numbers: a single search reveals a number's reputation through community labels. The app is free to download and available for Android, iOS, and even the web.
Besides the app, GetContact can also be accessed via its website for quick searches without installation. The app version, however, gives the fullest experience, including automatic identification when an unknown number calls.
Steps to Check a Number on GetContact
Download the GetContact app from the Google Play Store or App Store, open it, and accept the requested policies. Register with an active phone number and complete verification via SMS or WhatsApp.
Once signed in, type or paste the suspicious number into the search bar at the top. Make sure the country code is correct, run the search, and open the Tags menu to see how other users labeled the number.
Reading Results and Their Limits
If the tags are dominated by words like scammer, spam, or fraud, stop communicating and don't continue any transaction with that number. Note that viewing tags in full generally requires a Premium subscription.
Treat search results as an early clue, not an official verdict — labels come from user contributions, so they can be inaccurate. A similar alternative is Truecaller, which also flags a number's spam status and can block spam calls.
Traits of Scam Numbers
Beyond checking apps, learn the patterns: callers use foreign or oddly formatted numbers, call repeatedly from similar-looking numbers (differing in the last digit), always pressure or threaten to panic the victim, and can't be called back because they use virtual numbers.
If you find a scam number, report it through official complaint channels so there are no more victims — and never share OTP codes or banking details with anyone who contacts you first.
