Via the Gmail App on Your Phone

The easiest way on a phone is through the Gmail app. Open the app, tap the profile icon at the top right, choose "Add another account", then select Google. On the sign-in page, tap "Create account" and pick personal use.

Enter your first and last name, birth date, and gender. Choose an email address from Google's suggestions or create your own, then set a strong password. Finally, verify your phone number via SMS code and accept Google's Terms of Service — the account activates instantly and connects to every Google app on the phone.

Via Android Settings and Browser

Android users can also sign up via Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google, then choose "Create Account" on the sign-in page. The flow is identical: fill in personal details, pick an email address, create a password, verify, and accept the terms.

On a laptop or PC, open accounts.google.com in a browser, click "Create Account", and follow the same form. iPhone users can download the Gmail app from the App Store or sign up via the Safari browser with identical steps — the whole process is free and only needs an internet connection.

During sign-up, Google also asks whether the account is for yourself, a child, or a business. Choose accordingly: a business account suits small enterprises wanting a professional image, while a child account gives parents supervision controls.

Tips for Picking an Address and Password

Because a Gmail username can't be changed once created, pick one that's professional and memorable — a format like firstname.lastname@gmail.com suits work or job applications. If your desired name is taken, add numbers or dots as a variation.

Create a password of at least 8 characters mixing uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Add a phone number and recovery email so the account can be restored if you forget the password, and turn on two-step verification for extra security.
