The volatile-food component posted 1.46% inflation with the largest contribution of 0.24%, dominated by the same commodities.

Transportation Adds Pressure, 36 Provinces Inflate

Beyond food, transportation also pushed inflation, recording 4.84% with a 0.58% contribution — driven by high gasoline prices, airfares, lubricants, motorcycles, cars, and maintenance costs.

Regionally, 36 provinces recorded inflation and two recorded deflation in September 2026. The highest inflation was in North Sulawesi at 3.53%, while the deepest deflation was in East Nusa Tenggara at 0.35%.

With annual inflation at 3.28%, household purchasing power — especially for food and transportation — bears watching heading into year-end.

BPS also recorded core-component inflation of 0.10% with a 0.06% contribution, dominated by university tuition costs. The government-administered price component posted near-zero inflation.

Notably, gold jewelry was the main deflation driver in the personal-care group, contributing 0.01% to deflation. Overall, all three inflation components — core, administered prices, and volatile food — recorded inflation in September 2026, according to BPS data released on 1 October.
