Mandatory ID Documents

The main requirement for long-distance train travel is carrying a valid original ID — KTP, family card, or passport — with a name exactly matching the ticket. Officers verify the data during boarding.

Passengers should arrive at least 60 minutes before departure to allow time for queues and platform entry. At major stations, boarding now mostly uses face recognition: simply scan your face at the machine, no printed ticket required.

Baggage Rules to Follow

Each passenger gets a free baggage allowance of up to 20 kg with maximum dimensions of 100 dm³ (70 cm x 48 cm x 30 cm). Excess weight is charged from Rp10,000 per kg for executive class down to Rp2,000 per kg for economy.

Oversized items blocking cabin aisles may be removed by the conductor. For folding bikes or wheelchairs, ensure dimensions comply with the special baggage rules.

Prohibited Items and Special Passengers

For safety, several items are banned on board, including animals, durian, sharp weapons, and flammable or explosive materials. Comply to keep your journey smooth.

Passengers under 6 years old must be accompanied by an eligible adult. For special assistance — such as wheelchairs for seniors or disabled passengers — contact KAI customer service in advance via call center 121, WhatsApp 0811-2111-121, or email cs@kai.id.

Tips for a Smooth Boarding Process

Register your face at the face-recognition machines available at major stations well before departure day — on the day, you simply scan your face without queuing to show your ID. If not registered, prepare your physical ID and the e-boarding pass from the Access by KAI app.

Charge your phone fully and download your e-ticket offline as backup. During holiday seasons or weekends, arrive earlier than the recommended 60 minutes as inspection queues tend to be longer. Save call center 121 on your phone for emergencies during the journey, and double-check your belongings before alighting at your destination station.
