Screenshots on Android: Power + Volume Down

The most common way to take a screenshot on an Android phone is pressing the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time for one to two seconds. The screen will flash and a preview thumbnail appears in the corner as confirmation.

Screenshots are saved automatically to the gallery, usually in an album called "Screenshots". From the preview thumbnail, you can edit, crop, annotate, or share it without opening the gallery.

Screenshots on iPhone: Match Your Model

On iPhone, the button combination depends on the model. For iPhones with Face ID (no Home button, such as iPhone X and later), press the Side button and Volume Up together, then release quickly.

For iPhones that still have a Home button, press the Home button and the Power button (Side or Top, depending on the model) simultaneously. The result is saved in the Photos app, and the thumbnail can be tapped for editing.

Alternative Gestures per Brand

Beyond buttons, many phones offer button-free screenshot methods. On Samsung, enable "Palm swipe to capture" via Settings > Advanced Features > Motions and Gestures, then swipe the edge of your palm across the screen.

Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo generally support a three-finger downward swipe on the screen, which can be enabled via Settings > Additional Settings or Shortcut Gestures. On iPhone, you can use AssistiveTouch or double-tap the back of the phone (Back Tap) via Settings > Accessibility > Touch.

Scrolling Screenshots and Extra Tips

To capture a page longer than the screen, Android offers a scrolling screenshot option — after taking a regular screenshot, tap "Capture more" or "Scroll" on the thumbnail, then scroll to the desired section. On iPhone, when screenshotting in Safari, choose "Full Page" to save it as a PDF.

Make sure the screen shows the content you want and that storage space is available, since failed screenshots are usually caused by the wrong button combination or full storage. If the physical buttons are faulty, use gestures or the accessibility menu instead.
